3rd International Gastronomy Symposium of Alto Minho

The Alto Minho gastronomy sector plays a pivotal role in the local economy, standing out as a primary catalyst of economic dynamism. Its significance extends beyond the domain of gastronomy, encompassing the fields of tourism, agriculture and culture. The region's culinary tradition, which includes unique endogenous products such as Arroz de Sarabulho à Moda de Ponte de Lima and 'Vinho Verde', values local gastronomy as an economic asset and a sustainable development opportunity.

Under the patronage of the ISGSS the 'International Gastronomy Symposium' is an event that brings together a diverse range of professionals from various fields, including academics, politicians, technicians, influencers, producers and gastronomes. The symposium fosters the exchange of best practices among professionals, thereby engendering a collaborative environment in which participants can share their insights and expertise. It also serves as a platform for discussing cultural policies in the context of sustainable development, encouraging the exchange of ideas and new initiatives. The symposium's overarching objective is to extend its international reach, with a view to fostering connections with professionals and institutions on a global scale.

The theme of this year's edition is “Since 1124, Gastronomy Heritage”, linked to the 900th anniversary of the Grant Charter as Portugal's first town. In this year's event, we will explore the evolution of food over time and the use of aromatic, medicinal and spicy plants in healthy eating. It will also examine how the certification of local products and indigenous breeds can help to preserve and promote the region's gastronomic heritage, while having a positive impact on the local economy.
